Once the floor sheet is installed correctly, it will save you both time and money. It eliminates the need to tarp the roof and, as the 2nd storey framework is installed directly over the top of the floor sheet, there is no need to remove it as construction continues.

This is NOT cheap domestic material but commercial-grade material specially designed to have the strength and endurance required for commercial use. Here's the difference.

• The weave method.  We use an interlocking weave prevents the material from separating into a top and bottom, which is then likely to develop holes.  One of the most cost-cutting methods is to use cheaper scrims which significantly reduces the life and durability of the product.
• UV protection.  We use the highest UV rating of any product currently being used in Australia.  This means that it doesn’t matter if you need it for 1 month or 3 years it will last and not start failing after a week.
• The coating.  A lot of time and research has gone into this to create a product with the strongest coating in the market but can still be welded reliably.  This means less time on maintenance,  less damage and more protection for your job.
• Genuine testing and results.  The material is continuously tested and needs to meet standards before being released from the factory which means you don’t need to worry about a bad batch affecting your job.
• Development.  We have tried and tested most of the alternative products available and determined that this is the best product based on Strength, Abrasion resistance, Reliability, Welding consistency & UV protection.

Beware of cheaper fabrics as these fabrics do not have the body or the coating thickness to stand up to the job and this could cost you more in the end.

Fabrication of NL Products floor sheets

With proper use, floor sheets minimise the risk of water damage to ceilings & other property below the work area and protect the newly laid floor from staining and damage during framing, roofing and fitting out activities. Floor sheets have proven to be a valuable addition to techniques used in general building & second-story work. 

Important Information, General Usage and Tips To Remember

Floor sheets are not tarpaulins.

They are essentially a watertight double-welded membrane made to size & shape as specified by the builder. The sheet is larger than the proposed floor to enable the edges to be folded over & battened down to provide a waterproof cap.

Floor sheets are not designed to be used to protect partially stripped roof structures or partially completed floors where potential accidental damage to the sheet is high. A floor sheet should not actually be on the building site until the roof has been removed & the new floor has been fixed, nailed, punched and swept down. Protection until this time should be with standard, heavy-duty tarpaulins. Such heavy-duty tarpaulins can be hired out for the occasion or manufactured to specification. 12 m x 7 m tarps are a manageable size & are usually available for hire or can be purchased.

Installation

Your floor sheet comes to you folded & rolled. Place it on the newly swept floor. Prepare plenty of half nailed battens to secure the sheet after it is unfolded. Check for an unfolding plan & unroll the sheet along the nominated side of the floor area. Never unfold the sheet in windy or unsettled conditions.

Loose sheets are extremely dangerous.   Carefully move the sheet into position, take one edge & carry it over the floor side & batten into place. Tighten sheets across the floor to eliminate any folds & wrinkles. Fully batten around the edge to eliminate any chance of wind getting under the sheet.

Outside floor plates must be checked about 150 mm x 20 mm approximately every 2 metres as this minimises ponding on sheets and saves a 50 mm head of water in storms. It is also a great advantage to remove plates at doorways & build up wet areas, i.e. bathrooms etc., level with the rest of the floor area to save ponding in these areas.

Sweep sheets down – it is essential that each afternoon the sheet is carefully checked for any holes or abrasions. When located, clean and dry the area thoroughly. A suitable material for patching is FLOOR MATE GLUE. Do not forget to clean sawdust and debris from checkouts on floor plates. Obvious signs of holes in sheet after rain are dark patches around the material.

Keep the sheet clear – If stacking timber or roof trusses on the sheet, pack under with timber to ensure minimum damage and a free flow of water. However, it is our advice, for best results, to keep the sheet clear. The membrane is your insurance against the elements.
